During 2024/25, the University will be rolling out updated and new training on sexual harassment for staff, including for those with responsibilities under the Dignity at Work Policy. Further information will be available on this page as details of courses and learning resources are released.
Learning and Development courses
The University provides a wide range of information, training and development opportunities for staff, managers and leaders to build skills to tackle and prevent inappropriate behaviour. Information about the training and development opportunities currently available can be found on the Learning and Development website, including:
- A LinkedIn Learning pathway for staff, including information on the University's expectations about behaviour and how to report incidents
- A LinkedIn Learning pathway for managers, including resources to help staff with responsibility for other employees
- The University's Leadership Essentials course
Where do you draw the line?
‘Where do you draw the line?’ is a sexual harassment prevention approach developed collaboratively by UCL and the Universities of Cambridge, Manchester and Oxford. It begins with the proposition that harassment in contemporary academia is more commonplace and widespread than we would like to admit, but that it is often nuanced, coded and/or covert.
Work is underway to update the 'Where do you draw the line?' training during 2024/25 and incorporate information about the University's duty under the Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) Act 2023. A brief webinar introducing this duty and explaining the current resources to support staff will be available in the near future.
Taking the Lead
In line with the University's Dignity at Work Policy, Grievance Policy and Code of Behaviour, 'Taking the Lead' focuses on the practical measures, knowledge and skills needed by senior leaders to create and support a culture which is courteous and professional, where inappropriate behaviour - including sexual misconduct - can be appropriately managed and where there is confidence in the systems to carry that out. The target audience is Heads of Institution, Faculties and Departments and it is especially beneficial for individuals taking on senior leadership responsibilities for the first time.
The next session of 'Taking the Lead' will take place at Greenwich House on 31 January 2025, from 09:30 to 12:00. To register your interest in this session (or in future sessions) of 'Taking the Lead', please email the HR Policy Team.
Staff training on student disclosures of sexual assault
The University is running sessions for all College and University staff regarding how to appropriately respond to a disclosure of sexual violence. The briefing includes information about the prevalence and attitudes around sexual violence, as well as the College and University systems in place to support and investigate any sexual violence. University and College staff can find out when the next 'Responding to Disclosures of Sexual Violence in the Collegiate University' sessions are.
